We had a sweet tooth last night and were reminded that Cool Moon Ice Cream was winding down their first day of business. So at about 9:30 we walked over to the corner of 11th & Johnson, across from Jamison Square and found the Pearl District’s newest independent business; Cool Moon Ice Cream. Many have wondered when Cool Moon would open their doors. Just to keep peoples interest, the owners have done a great job keeping peoples interest piqued with an array of window displays.
The décor is very ‘happy’ with a lot of bright colors which has the potential to draw in customers all winter long, if for nothing else a relief from SADS. The flavors are great are there are a lot to choose from. They encouraged us to sample as many flavors as we wished. There is one that even features Trader Joe’s liquor! It should be noted that ALL OF THE ICE CREAM IS MADE ON-SITE.
The wait was well worth it! I see this becoming ‘the’ ice cream shops that many kids will demand to visit after their trip to Portland’s ‘beach’; Jamison Square.
On a side note~ As we walked in we were greeted with a friendly hello from a couple in our building, the Streetcar Lofts. Heidi went for the Cool Moon Sundae and I went for a scoop of Maple Pumpkin. Just as we finished ordering we were greeted by another neighbor in our building. Walking home, we talked about how truly unique the Pearl District is. In our old neighborhood we would have been hard-pressed to see two neighbors at the same business on the same night. Let along the fact that the first couple we saw lives on the fifth floor, which in a residential setting, could be three or four blocks away… The Pearl District is a great place to live!
