History Cupcake Jones is a labor of love for Oregon natives Lisa Watson and Peter Shanky. In the Winter of 2002, on a weekend trip to Vancouver, B.C. Lisa and Peter saw the cutest little shop ever, called “Cupcakes”. After a few visits, they knew that this type of bakery was exactly what Portland needed. Four and half years later, after a long search for the perfect location, lots of market research, months of work on a business plan, and lots of sleepless nights, they opened Cupcake Jones on July 11, 2007. The fulfillment of Lisa’s lifelong dream of owning her own business, Cupcake Jones is the namesake of her father, Robert Jones Watson. It is also a play on the popular slang term “jonesin’” or “having a jones”, meaning something you really CRAVE! Lisa and Peter are working hard with their team of incredibly talented and creative bakers and the most fun & upbeat counter staff you can imagine, to bring you the finest in service and quality found anywhere. Giving Lisa and Peter are committed to giving back to their community through weekly donations to Blanchet House, a local service agency that provides housing, meals, jobs, and aid to the homeless and others in need. Other recipients of donations have included numerous local schools, Campfire Girls, Boys and Girls Club, animal shelters, and The Red Dress Party, which donates the proceeds to various support agencies for the GLBT community, among others. Environment Cupcake Jones is also committed to the environment. We recycle everything possible in our business. Even the paper towels we dry our hands with all day get recycled. We use only non aerosol cleaners, most of which are biodegradable. Local Being “locally grown” themselves, Lisa and Peter are committed to buying local whenever possible. Local flowers, fruit, and ingredients are the cornerstone of our products. Gratitude Finally, Cupcake Jones wouldnt exist without the help and support of an amazing network of friends and family who have volunteered countless hours of help doing everything from designing our logo (and t-shirts, business cards, and signs), to folding t-shirts, typing recipes, and providing infinite moral support and encouragement over the past few years. Come on by to see what we are all about! We can’t wait to meet you!
