New Success in the Pearl: Trader Vic's

With some time now under its belt, Trader Vic’s can now say that it’s off to a good start at it’s new Pearl District location at 12th and Glisan.  Walls that open to let the Portland summer in, a good array of outdoor seating, and a unique flavor all its own have made the restaurant and bar a popular place for lunch, dinner, and drinks.

“We’re impressed”, we were told by Lisa and Beverly, dining outside on a recent Tuesday evening, “it’s a fun atmosphere and the service has been very good.”

At a time when more businesses are reporting difficulties and layoffs, it’s good to see a new business open and flourish here in our neck of the woods.

Sunday Parkways Rolls Through Pearl

Portland’s unique Sunday Parkways event rolled through the Pearl and Downtown Portland yesterday, drawing thousands of cyclists, as well as walkers, runners, strollers and shoppers.

Sunday Parkways is organized by the Portland Bureau of Transportation with its many community partners, including Portland Parks & Recreation.

“This year, we’re including more neighborhoods and making each Sunday Parkways longer in response to supportive feedback,” Mayor Sam Adams said. “The event has become a highlight of the summer for many Portlanders, and we’re looking forward to including more neighbors in the fun.”

“For years I’ve enjoyed the many health benefits of walking for exercise, so I’m excited and proud that Kaiser Permanente Northwest is once again a partner in the City’s Sunday Parkways program,” said Sue Hennessy, Vice President, Strategic Planning & Health Plan Services. “It’s a true community event that celebrates and encourages Total Health. That’s what our organization is all about, so it’s a perfect fit.”

There is one Sunday Parkways event remaining this summer, on September 5th in Northeast Portland.  See portlandonline.com for more.

Summer Heats Up Sales in the Pearl

Summer appears to be here! This is great for people active in the real estate market.  More activity means buyers and sellers are more engaged and more active in their search to come to terms and make sales happen.

In many markets, activity picks up just as the kids get out of school but drops again in September when they go back.  Because the downtown area as a whole sees more investor activity than most neighborhoods, the “in season” lasts longer and provides a greater range of opportunities.

Starbucks Opens Doors of Highly Anticipated Pearl District Store on Monday

Starbucks Opens Doors of Highly Anticipated Pearl District Store on Monday

Brewery Blocks location showcases new design approach, will be the company’s 143rd LEED® Certified Store

WHAT: On June 13, Starbucks will open a stunning green-built store in the Pearl District, the company’s first new location in Portland in over three years. The store features reclaimed and other materials from across the Pacific Northwest. It is Starbucks industry-leading 143rd store designed to be LEED® certified. This is particularly fitting as the company’s first LEED certified store was built in Hillsboro, Ore., in 2006.  The Brewery Blocks location will also be the first Starbucks store outside of Seattle to offer wine and beer, as well as an extended food menu.

Key design features include:

§  Wood wall paneling from reclaimed Northwest Douglas fir

§  Locally sourced reclaimed bar tops as well as salvaged furniture pieces throughout

§  Art installation made from salvaged bike inner tubes, a nod to Portland’s cycling community

The store design reflects the industrial past of the Pearl District with a warehouse feel of exposed concrete, raw steel and glass contrasted by the warmth of rich woods and upholstery. Paying homage to the unique coffeehouse culture of Portland and the Pearl District, the Brewery Blocks location will offer a menu that features a variety of Pacific Northwest wines and beers as well as special food offerings in addition to the standard menu.

The Brewery Blocks store is the first of three new locations in downtown Portland to open this summer. On July 1, a new store will open at the 1st and Main tower. Another is slated for opening at 4th and Morrison on September 2.
