Owned and operated by third generation Tibetan refugees, Khaden brings with its products a history of an exiled people and in particular a story of a refugee family fleeing persecution from communist China.
Starting out in 1962 as weavers, members of the family have since been involved in the rug trade as small shopkeepers retailing to tourist newly discovering the aesthetics and charm of Tibetan rugs.
Followed by small scale production at home where a couple of looms provided a means of livelihood that eventually led to the setting up of a dedicated weaving complex where raw wool is brought in and leaves as c completely finished hand-knotted rugs.
A new chapter was started in 2002 with the establishment of “Khaden Inc.” Based in Portland-OR, with a new showroom in Seattle-WA we retail directly through out two stores in the Pacific Northwest.
